The primary goal of the program is to help children reach their full potential socially, emotionally, and physically. Overview of the Academic Magnet Program The Academic Magnet program provides an academically challenging and enhanced curriculum that nurtures a genuine love for learning and develops the creative and intellectual abilities of our students. The rigorous course offerings cultivate minds, develop character, and prepare students for life. Artist George Rodrigue of Blue Dog Fame Painting with Children
Artist George Rodrigue painted “live” with pre-school children on Thursday February 24, 2011. Forum 35 co-presented the school with an Arts Closet Kit. The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts (GRFA) advocates the importance of the visual arts in the development of our youth, encourages the use of art within curriculums, despite continuing state and federal cutbacks. Rodrigue’s primary focus is to expose children to education in the visual arts in hopes of inspiring in others an early and on-going creative passion similar to his own. GRFA gathers donations of art supplies and/or funds to purchase supplies as part of George’s Arts Closet to help teachers with limited budgets teach art. Some kits are custom designed by educational professionals. On Thursday, November 8, 2018, a library dedication ceremony was held to dedicate our school's library to Mr. George Rodrique
Our school's library is now the: George Rodrigue Media Center |
The Dufrocq School’s MicroSociety
Students at The Dufrocq School have implemented an innovative educational opportunity called MicroSociety. This learning environment empowers students to create a “miniature society” inside the school, giving them an opportunity to apply their knowledge to real life experiences. Dufrocq students learned about how a society works, how government works for the people, and how a community operates. This knowledge helped students understand what is involved in making their school a community and prepared them to write a constitution for the Dufrocq MicroSociety. The students voted to name their society “Crawfish Bayou”. Dufrocq micro money, which students will earn and spend, is called “Crawfish Cash”. If you want to know more about MicroSociety, you can find information at www.microsociety.org. Microsociety will resume when we are 100% face-to-face again. |
